Tashkent After Dark: Bars, Live Music and Late Food
Named Tashkent bars with menu prices, theatre and fountain nights, the 2023 alcohol law in plain terms, late food, metro closing and getting home safely.
Tashkent's evening has two fixed points. In season, the big musical fountain on the lake in Tashkent City Park runs its first show of the night at 18:30 (per Afisha.uz, April 2026), and at around midnight the last metro trains pull out. Most of what's good about a night in the capital happens between those two times, and most of it isn't in a bar.
This page covers both halves: the theatre, fountain and street evenings that locals actually go out for, and a short list of bars we could confirm are still trading in 2026, with real menu prices. One warning up front. Tashkent venues open and close fast, and several places that older guides still recommend have shut. We only name somewhere below if at least two current sources (map listings, the venue's own pages, recent articles) show it operating, and even then you should check the listing on the day.
The alcohol rules, in plain terms
Alcohol is legal and sold openly in Tashkent, and ordering a beer with dinner won't get you a second look. The rules that matter to a visitor all come from one law, ZRU-844, "On restricting the distribution and consumption of alcohol and tobacco products". It was signed on 24 May and published on 25 May 2023 (see the official text on lex.uz), and it took effect three months later, on 26 August 2023, as Kun.uz confirmed at the time.
- Age 21, not 20. Sale to anyone under 21 is banned, and so is sale by anyone under 21. Many English-language guides still say 20, which was the old limit.
- ID on request. Article 21 obliges the seller to ask anyone who looks under 21 for a document showing their age, and to refuse without one. A passport photo on your phone may not be accepted, so carry the real thing if you look young.
- No drinking in public space. Article 24 bans drinking alcohol on streets, in public gardens, parks, stadiums, workplaces and on all public transport. A bottle of wine on a bench in Tashkent City Park is exactly what the law means.
- No delivery of spirits or beer. Alcohol can't be sold by e-commerce or delivered to the customer, with an exception for sparkling and natural wines that has been in the law since the original 2023 text.
- Carry a card for shop-bought drinks. Alcohol was card-only from 1 April 2026; since 1 June, under a presidential decree of 26 May 2026, hotels, cafes and restaurants can take cash for it again. The exemption doesn't mention shops, and their tills may need a local Uzcard or Humo card or a payment app, since foreign cards aren't always accepted (Gazeta.uz reported tourists being told to open a local card in April 2026).
- No smoking indoors. Article 24 also bans smoking and vaping in cafes, restaurants, clubs and discos. The wider rules are covered in our explainer on where you can smoke.
- No vapes at all. A separate law signed in November 2025 bans the import and sale of e-cigarettes and vaping liquids from 1 March 2026, so a vape in your luggage can be confiscated and possession carries criminal penalties.
What we couldn't pin down is a current national cut-off time for shop sales. A 2018 draft proposed stopping sales at 21:00, but we found no evidence it was adopted, so treat any hour you read online as a rumour until a shopkeeper tells you otherwise (last checked: September 2026).
An evening that doesn't start in a bar
Ask where Tashkent spends a warm evening and the honest answer is outdoors, sober and with the family. The best free show in the city is the musical fountain in Tashkent City Park, beside the Hilton. Afisha.uz reported in April 2026 that it runs at 18:30, 19:30, 20:30 and 21:30, with fireworks on Fridays and Saturdays at 21:00, and that entry is free. Its 54 shows are set to anything from Kazakh pop to The Weeknd and Michael Jackson, which tells you who the audience is. Get there for the 20:30 run if you want the fireworks crowd without the late-night queue for a taxi.
Opera and ballet are the other proper night out. The Alisher Navoi Theatre sells through iTicket, and its autumn 2026 listings (Swan Lake on 8 October, a Verdi and Mascagni ballet on 1 October) started from 77,000 som on iTicket (box-office prices can be lower), around $6.50 (last checked: September 2026). Performances begin in the early evening, usually 18:00 or 19:00, so you're out by 21:00 with time for dinner. Our Navoi Theatre page covers the building, dress and seat choice.
For something odder, the Ilkhom Theatre at Pakhtakor Street 5, a short walk from Pakhtakor metro, has staged experimental work since 1976. Yandex Maps shows it with more than 2,400 ratings, and recent reviewers mention subtitles on some productions, which matters because most plays are in Russian. Check its programme before you go rather than turning up.
Then there's the street itself. Sayilgoh Street, the pedestrian strip everyone calls Broadway, fills up after dark with portrait painters and families. It's a place to walk, not to drink, and it's due a rebuild; what's happening to Broadway explains the 2026 plan.

Steam Bar
The museum-style bar that tops most visitor rankings is still very much open. Its Yandex Maps listing, verified by the owner, gives the address as Niyozbek Yo'li 2 over two floors, with more than 8,000 ratings and reviews into late 2025 describing a live band followed by a DJ. It's also a proper restaurant with a grill menu, so it works for people who want dinner and music in one place.
Tashkent Tavern
A British-run pub on 8 Mart Street in Mirabad, and the easiest room in the city to start a conversation in English. Tour Central Asia's pub round-up lists live music on Saturdays, karaoke on Fridays and a quiz every second Wednesday, and its Yandex reviewers agree about the quiz. Monday hours are listed differently by Yandex and Tour Central Asia, so check before going on a Monday. It's also the one venue here that publishes its whole menu online, which is where our price table below comes from.
Bla Bla Bar
The big one: a multi-bar venue on Shahrisabz Street with more than 2,000 Yandex ratings. It opens 21:00 to 03:00 (to 04:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, per Yandex), and its Instagram lists a face-control policy (men 25+, women 21+), so don't turn up in shorts expecting to be waved through. A June 2026 nightlife guide put the cover on live-music nights at 30,000 to 50,000 som; we couldn't confirm that on the venue's own pages, so treat it as indicative.
Sette at the Hyatt Regency
The Italian restaurant and terrace bar at the Hyatt, where you pay hotel prices for the view down Navoi Street. Hyatt lists the bar at 18:00 to 02:00 and the restaurant kitchen until 23:00. Tour Central Asia's 2026 update put a local draught beer here at about 45,000 som, about half as much again as a Tavern pint.
One name you'll still see on 2026 lists is Maqom Bar, the jazz room on Sharof Rashidov Avenue. Its Yandex Maps listing now reads "shut down", with no review since July 2024, so don't cross the city for it.
What a round costs
Prices below come from Tashkent Tavern's published online menu, a mid-priced pub, with hotel-bar figures from recent guides for comparison (last checked: September 2026). At the Central Bank's rate of about 11,825 som to the dollar on 26 September 2026, 10,000 som is roughly 85 cents.

The gap worth noticing is Guinness. At 100,000 som a pint, it costs about as much as three local draughts, so drink Uzbek unless you're homesick. If you'd rather try Uzbek wine than beer, our notes on Uzbek wine and spirits say which styles to order.
Closing times and eating late
Bars mostly wind down around 02:00, the bigger clubs later; Bla Bla Bar's finish, 21:00 to 03:00 (to 04:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, per Yandex), is typical of the top end. Restaurant kitchens are the thing that catches visitors out. Afsona and Anjir, two of the most popular Uzbek restaurants in the centre, both list 23:00 as closing on Yandex Maps, and many smaller places stop taking orders before that.
Where can you eat after 23:00? Three options we could confirm:
- Caravan, the suzani-hung Uzbek restaurant on Abdulla Qahhor Street 22, lists 11:00 to 02:00 daily on 2GIS, matched by its Yandex Maps listing, with an average bill of 100,000 to 200,000 som.
- EVOS, the local fast-food chain of lavash wraps and burgers, has several branches that stay open until 03:00.
- Besh Qozon, the plov chain, lists 03:00 closing for some branches; check the branch before you go.
Don't go looking for plov at midnight. It's a lunch dish, and a plate served late is almost always reheated. Getting home
The metro runs from 05:00 to midnight on the three underground lines, a schedule Kun.uz reported in 2021 and which still applies; the overground circle line stops earlier, at 23:00. From 1 October 2026 the flat fare is 2,500 som by card. The metro guide has the lines and the ticketing.
After that, it's Yandex Go. Its published Tashkent tariff (valid to 6 October 2026) sets the minimum fare on the cheapest "Start" class at 4,600 som, and the app shows a fixed price before you confirm, so there's nothing to haggle over. Late on a Friday, expect surge pricing to push a cross-centre ride up. Setting up Yandex Go covers the payment and SIM quirks; do it in daylight, not outside a bar at 02:00.
Skip the drivers who approach you on the pavement at closing time. Tashkent isn't a dangerous city at night, but an unmetered car with no app record is how a fair ride turns into an argument.
When the mood changes
During Ramadan many restaurants still serve alcohol, but the city quietens, some bars shorten their hours and drinking in daylight is plainly rude. Ramadan travel notes cover the rest. What is the legal drinking age in Uzbekistan?
Twenty-one. Law ZRU-844, signed in May 2023 and in force since 26 August 2023, raised the minimum age for buying alcohol and tobacco from 20 to 21. Sellers must ask for proof of age from anyone who looks younger and refuse without it, so carry your passport if you could pass for under 21 (last checked: September 2026).
Can you drink alcohol in public in Tashkent?
No. The same law bans drinking on streets, in public gardens, parks and stadiums, and on all public transport, with fines under the administrative code. Drink inside a licensed bar or restaurant, or at a private event such as a wedding, which the law explicitly exempts. A beer on a park bench is a genuine risk of a fine.
What time do bars close in Tashkent?
Most close around 02:00; the Hyatt's Sette bar lists 02:00, and Bla Bla Bar runs 21:00 to 03:00 (to 04:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, per Yandex). For late food, Caravan serves until 02:00, and some EVOS and Besh Qozon branches list 03:00; check the branch. Restaurant kitchens usually stop at 23:00, and the metro stops at midnight, so plan food early and a Yandex Go ride home.
